Pick Your Afro Friday – Oct. 31th 2008

by Tyrika on October 31, 2008

Welcome back!

Another Friday, and the afro is fly once again.  I’ll tell you, it’s not easy doing something for yourself when you are in the midst of starting a new business.  Days and night fly by and you find that you have done things for the business, and your family and friends, and somewhere in there you know you need to look out for yourself, but the time slips by.

Besides picking out my ever growing fro today, I ordered a book, It’s Time for Your Comeback by Tim Storey, after reading a Tweet and blog post by @reginabaker. Becoming bogged down by the time, energy, and hard work involved in starting a business is fully expected. However, everyone everyday faces difficulties and circumstances that can easily lead to feeling down, out, and stagnant. It’s a book like this that can help put things into perspective and get us back on track.

Have you Picked Your Afro this week?  Have you felt found yourself feeling dragged down, unmotivated, and just plain lost this week, or even recently?  What have you done for yourself to get out of that place?

Keeping Your Relationship Stock Market From Tumbling

by Tyrika on October 27, 2008

With the world economy frantically falling into a tailspin, finances being the leading cause of divorce, money woes between couples have the potential to reach an all time high.

Dr Ian Kerner shared with MSN six tips to keep the fire going in your relationship during the insanity of our economic state. His number one suggestion – have more sex! Sex is the ultimate bond between couples, so make grand use of it. Have sex, make love, do the horizontal tango, call it whatever you like, just make sure you are doing it. Take a look at the other five tips too.

  • Don’t stop investing in your relationship
  • Unplug the feed
  • Build a reserve of desire
  • Don’t let your ‘interest rate’ in your partner go from positive to negative
  • Watch out for a serious dip in your ‘passion portfolio’

Now go forth and multiply! Happy loving!

Pick Your Afro Friday – Oct. 24th 2008

by Tyrika on October 24, 2008

Whew! It’s Friday already?! The week has blown by before I could even look up. I don’t know about you, but it was a rough one for me, and today is no exception. I’m looking back into the week trying to figure out ‘Have I done anything for myself this week? Anything at all?’ I haven’t.

But that doesn’t mean it’s too late to Pick My Afro, after all the day just started. So I’m working on correcting that as we speak. I’m heading straight over to my absolute favorite radio blogger ever @ejflavors. He does an Old School Wednesday mix pretty much every week and this week’s mix is one of my favorites. It’s not one of those soothering, relaxing mixes, it’s more what I would call a ‘perfectly nostalgic blend’ of Earth Wind and Fire, Steely Dan, Kool and the Gang, the list goes on. Go on and check it out. Then check out the rest of his site. And please don’t blame me for your addiction to anything and everything EJ comes out with…lol

Have you Picked Your Afro this week? Have you faced a challenging week this week and still managed to do something for yourself? Inspire us with how to find a glimmer of joy though adversity.

Loving Inspiration – Oct 21st 2008

by Tyrika on October 21, 2008

If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for all humanity, it would be this: Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life, and when it comes, hold your head high. Look it squarely in the eye, and say, “I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.”
-Ann Landers

What’s keeping you down? Do you know you are bigger and better and capable of defeating it? Some times we need to hear what we know to be true from someone else. It rings a little truer that way. Life is hard; life is not always fair; but isn’t the reward of the many times that it is good to you worth the hard parts?

Release your burdens, your difficult and ‘unfair’ moments. Let them out to people who really care and let them love and confort you back into a place where you know in your head and feel in your heart that you are capable of anything and everything.

Pick Your Afro Friday – Oct. 17th 2008

by Tyrika on October 17, 2008

It’s Friday and the ‘fro is on the loose. I Picked My Afro this week by making an unexpected trip home to see a family member who needed me. Some would say that isn’t something for me, rather something for someone else. However, this person didn’t want me to come, nor was the look on their face joyous when I arrived. Despite that, I know that they really are happy that I came. This person is very important to me and life would not be bearable without them.

So what have you done for yourself this week? How have you Picked Your Afro?
