Welcome back!
Another break away from my fast paced, go-go-go lifestyle is on the horizon (I made my life sound way more exciting that it honestly is LOL) . Last weekend I successfully managed to work some Me Time into my schedule. This weekend there I’ll be hanging out with the blood born and ‘adopted by friendship’ family. The Pasadena Strawberry Festival is this weekend and I’ve been itching to get out and enjoy a festival or two since I’ve moved to Houston almost two years ago. The website boasts a variety of events and activities that I know the kids will love so we’ll be heading down tomorrow evening after it cools off outside.
There might be a video up from our trip in the near future…maybe!
Enough about me, what are YOU doing for yourself this weekend? Or have you already Picked Your Afro this week? That’s even better. Do tell!

If you’ve been reading this blog or have talked to me via any of the social media sites that you can find me on, you know that I’d battled with acne as an adult for about 5 years. I made a number of life changing choices in the past year or so that have made a tremendous difference. Going on Accutane was the most drastic and some would even say controversial but it’s been worth it to me. I’m clearer than I’ve been since puberty.
Despite that round of treatment, modern medicine doesn’t fix everything 1005 of the time and I’ve recently had a mini breakout across my forehead. I’m pretty sure the break out stems from the weather; it’s blazin’ hot here in Houston already so I crossed my fingers that it might die out after a few days. It didn’t
Once I realized it wasn’t going to go away on its own, I decided to intervene with a more natural solution. Here’s what I decided I’d use to combat the outbreak:
- 4 ozs of aloe juice
- 1 ml nutmeg essential oil
- 1ml rosemary essential oil
- .5 ml tea tree oil
I’ve been using this on my forehead only in combination with my every day morning and night routine. I can happily say I noticed a difference in as little as a week. Once I saw the change, I switched to once a day just as a precautionary treatment but the outbreak is down to barely noticeable.
*happy dance*

Every Friday, no matter what the circumstances, I call it Fabulous Friday. Why? Pick a reason! We made it through the work week. We woke up to see another day. We are sooo close to the weekend and hopefully a little R&R. The list goes on. Its Friday…Fabulous!
Have I Picked My Afro? No, not even close. I’d be happy to say that picking my afro this week will entail lots of sleep! But I know I can’t quite get away with that; the PYAF followers would have my head (Erica!) I am going to pick it this weekend though, it’s already planned. I have some exclusive Me Time planned for Sunday afternoon and I’m going to go lie out in the sun, read a book, turn on the iPod and just zone out. Ahhhh, I can see it, I can feel it, I can almost touch it!
What do you have planned for this Mother’s Day weekend? Are you planning to pick your afro on Sunday? If you’re not a Mom, are you planning to help a mom Pick Her Afro? Mom’s needs need to keep their afro’s fly too ya know!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommies!
