Event Planning Tips & Tricks

As the woman behind mainelement: love I take pride in using my knowledge, expertise and creativity creating gifts that make it possible for you to give beautifully, handmade bath and body gifts at your special events. I enjoy the process of creating the gifts and I enjoying knowing that the recipients are excited about having a gift that has been created especially for them.
What my knowledge, expertise and creativity does not qualify me as is an event planner. Everything I have learned about planning and hosting events has come from the wonderful planners I am surrounded by. Because that is not my forte, I want to allow the real experts to provide their expertise to help those of you are like me and are just plain clueless about the fundamentals of what it takes to successfully plan and host an event.
I will feature a different planner from time to time who will offer a variety of tips and suggestions on different aspects of the event planning process Please contact the event planner directly if you are interested in using their services.

Gotta have a theme!
No matter what the event, great or small every event should have a theme. The theme can be subtle or over the top and creative. The theme sets the stage for the event. Think of the theme as the set decorations for a play. Without the set & props it is hard to visualize the scene and to really put yourself into the action. You want your guests to fully embrace your event, to share in the memories that you are creating.
The theme should be seamlessly woven into various aspects of the event. There are an unlimited number of ways to incorporate a theme into your next event. Here are five key elements to consider:
- Centerpiece: The centerpiece is the focal point of any table. This includes you gift tables, buffet tables, and sign in tables in addition to dining tables. There are unlimited possibilities when it comes to centerpieces. You can be traditional and use flowers or candles or step outside the box and use fruit, beads, ornaments, and other items to suite your theme.
- Favors: Favors can be used for any event, large or small. Favors are a way of saying “thank you” to guests for coming and to give them a keepsake from your event. If the budget allows, I’m always in favor of favors. Your favors should be consistent with your theme and should also be desirable to your guests. Give guests something useful and you are more likely that they won’t end up at the bottom of a landfill. Glasses, wine stoppers, coasters, and candle holders are common examples of favors that your guests are likely to treasure (mainelement:love products make great personalized favors and guests have the ability to order more *wink*)
- Invitations: The invitations are your guest’s introduction to your event. Is your invitation formal or fun? Invitations not only give your guests the event details that they need but establishes the tone and theme for the event.
- Food: The food and beverages that you serve should also be consistent with your theme. Work with your caterer and bartender to find menu options and/or specialty drinks that fit with your theme.
- Attire: Yes, even what you wear should compliment your theme! If you have a casual fun theme you should wear something casual; if your event is more formal dress the part. Depending on the type of event you are planning wearing colors or styles to fit your theme may be appropriate.
